My research focuses on public health policy for prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. I use implementation and dissemination science to understand barriers to adoption of evidence-based treatment and prevention methods. For example, I explore the effects of regulations of medication-assisted treatments for opioid dependance on attitudes and behaviors of healthcare practitioners. I also research ways to incorporate evidence-based treatment methods for substance use disorders and mental health disorders into drug courts and the criminal justice system in general. Finally, I research potential legislative and agency incentives for pharmaceutical development of new treatments for substance use disorder.

My second area of research examines legal questions in health care through an empirical lens. As part of this project, I assess whether technology can improve the legal process. For example, I have assisted Enfoglobe, Inc. in designing multimedia informed consent tools in order to improve the informed consent process for health care procedures.
